Religious Hypocrisy
I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him [Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela] out.' And 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping; there are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP [Associated Press], but that happens all the time.

–Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition (today [Wednesday])

If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it.
–Pat Robertson (Monday; video available—note seriousness, lack of irony)

Lo' tiretsach.
(You shall not murder.)
–attributed to the Judeo-Christian deity Yahweh by the writers (?"Deuteronomist" source; Masoretic redactors) of We'eleh Shemoth (And These Are The Names...), a.k.a. Exodus

Lo'-tha:anah bere:acha :ech shaqar.
(You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.)
–Ibid.

Why does anyone still listen to this hypocrite? Why does the most powerful man in the world listen to this hypocrite?

Then again, it's not like his deity is completely consistent, either:

Boh 'amar Yahweh Tsebha'oth paqoratiy 'eth 'eshah-:assah :Amaleq ... :Atah lecho! wehikiythah 'ath-:Amaleq wehacherametam 'ath-bal-'eshar-low welo' tahemol :alayuw wehematah me'iysh 'al-'ishoh ma:olel we:ar-yowneq mishwor we:ar-ssah migamal we:ar-hemwor.
(This is what Yahweh of the Hordes [or Armies] says: "I will punish 'Amaleq [Amalek] for what he has done ... Now go! and attack 'Amaleq, and annihilate all that he has, and spare none of them, but kill all, from man to woman; from children even to nursing infants; from cattle even to sheep; from camel even to donkey.)
–attributed to the prophet Shmu'el (Samuel) by the writers of Sepher Shmu'el (The Book[s] of Samuel), in a speech given to Sa'ul (Saul), king of Yisra'el (Israel)

Religious hypocrisy is the best kind of hypocrisy, from the hypocrite's point of view. What better justification can you cite than "God is on my side"?

And the most powerful man in the world thinks he can talk to a god from the Oval Office (or is that Dick Cheney hiding under the desk?). That's not much better than making policy decisions with the aid of Mistress Cleo. Remember, we have to lower our standards of leadership these days, so what's one more indignity?

Hahaha—good points well made.

A quote from Carl Sagan:
When we consider the founders of our nation ... we have before us a list of at least ten and maybe even dozens of great political leaders. They were well-educated. Products of the European Enlightenment, they were students of history. They knew human fallibility and weakness and corruptibility, They were fluent in the English language. They wrote their own speeches.... They were interested in and, at least two of them, fluent in science....

At that time, there were only about two and a half million citizens of the United States. Today there are about a hundred times more. So if there were ten people of the caliber of Thomas Jefferson then, there ought to be 10 × 100 = 1,000 Thomas Jeffersons today.

    Where are they?

They're the people who either

a) stay out of politics entirely

or

b) lose all their primaries because they're not party-line windbags.

Sadly, there is also this option:

c) Commit some indiscretion that they would rather not have investigated by the media.

Thou Shalt Not Kill unless of course it's done in the name of God, then it's a-ok

Kill in the name Allah (including sacraficing yourself), you'll have 96 virgins waiting for you in the after-life.

Killing seems to be made ok as long as it's done in the name of some sort of popular sky-daddy (God/Yahweh, Allah). This is why Iamthisclosetoabsolutehatred of abrahamic religions. I try to be
tolerate of others beliefs, but when shit like, "If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it," it makes it really fucking difficult. Then it's like, if there is the Judeo-Christian God (or Allah), why does he allow this to happen? Oh, that's right, his track record isn't exactly clean either. He has gone/has ordered a few killing sprees himself (first newborns? ugh). It's just fucking annoying, so that is why I never read the newspaper or watch the news anymore, because it just makes me very annoyed. The whole Gaza thing is fucking absurd as well. BAH, just BAH!!!!!!!

He's the same as any jihad screeching mullah. Actually, they're scarier, because Robertson's followers are fat lazy midwestern housewives. The worse they can do is ruin the American government by voting like the retarded bigots they are.

I'm less worried about his hypocricy and more worried about his bigotry and power games.
